Job seekers are sometimes reluctant to use staffing agencies because they are uncertain what to expect. They may have questions about the process: Do I need an appointment? Will I have to take skill tests? Should I bring a resume? How should I dress?
At Employment Edge, we try to keep the process as easy and applicant-friendly as possible. Here’s a step-by-step rundown of what you can expect when you walk through our door.
Plan your time. It is not necessary to have an appointment. You should allow about 45 minutes for your visit, which includes paperwork and an interview. Because of the time involved, we ask that you get here no later than 3:30 p.m. Dress appropriately. Business casual is fine, but no tank tops, shorts, or flip flops.
When you arrive, we will ask you to sign in. We keep a daily sign in sheet at the reception desk. Applicants sign in with name and some basic demographic information. We use the sign in sheets to collect data for internal use and equal opportunity reporting.
Next, you will complete an application. You have the choice of completing the application by hand or by using one of our computers. The application includes your contact information, job preferences and needs, availability and scheduling, education, work history, and skills. If you bring a resume, we will include that in your file. We also ask you to sign a reference consent form and supply us with work-related references.
An interview completes the application process. As soon as you finish your application form, a member of our staff will learn more about you during an interview. The interview gives you the opportunity to provide more details about the type of work you are looking for, what you learned and accomplished in previous jobs, and what you consider to be your strongest skills. This is also a time for you to ask us questions … especially if you have never worked with a staffing agency before.
When we find the right fit for you, you will move on to the next step. When we have an opening that matches your skills, we will contact you and describe the position in detail. If you agree, we will schedule an interview for you with the client company.
In some cases, you may first be called back to our office for a second interview and/or skill testing before interviewing with the client. Some of our client companies require skill testing; others do not. Because we are matching your experience with appropriate job openings, you would take only skill tests that match your experience.
If you accept a job offer, you will come back to our office to do the hiring paperwork – an I-9, W-4, and new hire packet. We participate in E-Verify, the federal government’s employment eligibility verification program, so all paperwork must be completed by your first day on the job.
When you accept a temporary or temp-to-hire position, you will be an employee of Employment Edge. (“Temp-to-hire” generally means that, after an agreed-upon period of satisfactory job performance, you will become a permanent employee of the client company.) If you have accepted a direct hire placement, you become an employee of the client company right away.
Helping people … taking care of business. There you have it. We use a fairly simple process to help people find great jobs … and help employers find great workers.
Please feel free to call us with any questions you have. We will be happy to help with your job search.
